Mita-kai is a general term that is usually used for Keio alumni organisations that are operated by graduate volunteers. The name is derived from the Mita area of Tokyo, Japan and from Keio University where the term originated. The goal of the Mita-Kai is to promote the exchange of information between alumni and the university.
The Mita-kai organisations are headed by the Keio Federation of Mita-kai. The federation organises an annual event during fall, usually attended by some 30,000 of the active alumni and their families. The event consist of symposiums, lectures and even a lottery.
There are nearly 910 Mita-kai organisations registered under the federation, with a lot of the 290,000 members belonging to multiple Mita-kai organisations.
